May 19th slated as opening day for Indigo Creek Outfitters
Ashland, Oregon rafting outfitter Indigo Creek Outfitters will open their 2012 Rogue River rafting season on May 19th, the company announced today. Southern Oregon rafting outfitters typically offer trips between mid-May and the end of August. Recent warm weather has helped outfitters secure reservations for trips in May. Last year, an unseasonably cold spring slowed early-season bookings. “When the sun comes out, the phone rings,” said Dana Woodruff, who helps manage Indigo Creek Outfitters’ Rafting Center, located at 130 ‘A’ Street near downtown Ashland.
Indigo Creek Outfitters, which takes its name from a large creek deep within Southern Oregon’s Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, offers half-day whitewater rafting trips on the Rogue River near Gold Hill. The section of river, known to many as the “Nugget-Powerhouse” stretch, offers the closest rafting to Ashland, Oregon. The company is entering its second year in business and has seen a significant increase in early-season reservations compared to last year at this time.
