The Playwright Public House, located at 258 A Street, opened in July of 2011 and has quickly become a must-visit location for locals and visitors alike. Plates feature generous portions of piping hot British comfort food – perfect for a cold wintery day. A very nice selection of beer is on tap and they carry an even wider selection of bottled beer and local wine.
The competition for 2012’s Best Chicken Pot Pie in Ashland is over even before it started. We stopped in for a bite and to watch a football game (great venue for sports) in mid-December and enjoyed their Chicken Pot Pie and Bangers and Mashers. The next time you have a craving for Chicken Pot Pie you now know where to look: this dish is amazing and huge.
When you eat at the Playwright you can expect heart-warming meals, a phenomenal atmosphere, tasty beer, and great service. Peter, who owns the place with his wife Kelli, is often serving or behind the bar. He makes a point to learn his customers names, share conversation, and genuinely cares about your experience. Their involvement in their business speaks volumes to their recent success, as they have seen their restaurant continue to become more and more popular over a few short months.
The next time you’re looking for a good meal, put The Playwright at the top of your list. You will not be disappointed.
