Agave in Ashland, Oregon has had their doors open since March of 2005, and there isn’t a local that isn’t grateful for it. Although the restaurant is small in size, it is jam-packed with fresh flavors. The ala carte menu allows you to make your own plate, and the simplicity of the ingredients satiates even the pickiest of eaters. Their tacos are served with fresh, house-made white corn tortillas, pico de gallo, cabbage, and fresh lime. Their menu states “bet you can’t just eat one” and yeah… you can’t. Make sure you order at least two to start. They offer the standard: carne asada, carnitas, pollo asado, and fish tacos, however they take it to the next level by also serving lobster and duck tacos.
Have I mentioned their margaritas? Oh my goodness. Their margaritas are made with only tequila, agave syrup to sweeten, and lime juice – which is clearly all they need. They’re served in 8oz glasses for a reason as those little guys are strong. After the first, I’m feeling pretty darn good. After the second? I’m looking for a dance floor. Agave cuts you off after two because they’re unfortunately not equipped to host a dance party. Like I mentioned before, the restaurant is small, so it’s best to get in and out so others can enjoy sitting, however the staff never rushes you out the door. At times there is no available seating without a short wait and I find that the easiest solution is to order to-go. There is a lovely picnic table tucked away across the street that overlooks the Ashland Creek where you can enjoy your meal to the soothing babble of rushing water.
If you need a nap afterward, shuffle your way to Lithia Park and lounge in the sun. If you want to be seated at Agave so you can sip on a to-die-for margarita, just pop into Manzanita on Main or The Spice and Tea Exchange next door and shop for goodies during your brief wait for an indoor or outdoor table.
Agave has been an Ashland favorite for years because the quality and taste are consistently fantastic, and the staff is always incredibly welcoming. It’s definitely a place you’ll return to during your next visit to Ashland, Oregon.
