Mystic Treats is a very unique find in Ashland. Located at the south end of town, it is one of very few places in Ashland with a 90% vegetarian menu (they just recently started adding meat dishes). Their menu ranges from pizza (by the slice!) and salads to veggie burgers & dogs, with perfectly complimentary desserts like truffles, cheesecake and cake balls. Everything is made in-house, including their ketchup, and sourced from local, non-gmo ingredients. I think they say it best — “Mystic Treats is Southern Oregon’s destination for unique pastries and artisan pizzas. Our menu caters to the progressive vegetarian as well as those with restrictive dietary concerns.”
My first experience here was nothing short of pleasurable. It’s very hard to find quality, late night food in Ashland, so when my tummy growled at 9:30pm, I was relieved to hear Mystic was open until 11. I am definitely the type of person they cater to, a “progressive vegetarian” with sometimes difficult “restrictive dietary concerns”. I tend to be the last at the table to order because I’m still biting my nails trying to figure out how I can make the dishes fit my needs. It’s usually easier to just not eat out, but Mystic Treats satisfies the need. After my comrades all ordered beef tacos with cilantro infused oil and slices of the Specialty Slice of the Day – Mi Amigo (marinara, soyrizo, jalapeno, sweet onion, green onion, tomato, pepper jack, mozzarella, cilantro infused oil & parmesan crust), I settled on a Manchurian Salad, added garbanzo beans, and sweet potato fries. While we waited for our food, we sipped on apricot cider and Caldera Hop Hash IPA and entered a heated game of Connect Four.
Mystic has a very large indoor dining area with booths of various sizes and long tables. They also have outdoor seating on a patio beside Ashland Street. They cater, they deliver, and they offer take-out. They are easily accessible by the local bus route and from exit 14. They are located in a large shopping center so there is ample parking for family and friends to join you in your mystical dining experience.
I was about to connect four when our food was delivered. The tacos came on house-made tortillas and were practically inhaled by the four guys who accompanied me. My plate of sweet potato fries, which only cost $2.58, was the size of an order I’ve paid $6 elsewhere for in the past. PLUS they were hand cut! Not from a frozen bag. My medium Manchurian salad could have fed two, but I ate it all anyways. Seeing as it was Taco Tuesday and the Specialty Slice was a Mexican-inspired flavor, my friend decided to make a taco pizza taco. Unfortunately for him, he only ordered one slice of pizza for five tacos.
Whether you’re a local Ashlander or briefly visiting our lovely town, Mystic Treats has something for you. Specialty Slices of the Day, every day. Soul Food Sundays. Dollar Taco Tuesdays. Wednesday night game nights. Local food, local music and local love abound here.
