Finally. I awoke this morning to birds chirping and a strange bright glow coming from outside. The sun. It had arrived. For the first time in nearly five months, I had to squint my eyes while stepping outside.
It’s been a long, cold, and wet winter here in Ashland, Oregon. That’s not necessarily a bad thing (in fact it’s a great thing), but nevertheless, the sun and its warm rays of happiness were a welcome sight. It’s amazing how a simple change in weather literally makes people happy again. And friendlier. As I pulled out of my driveway my neighbor from across the street waved at me and smiled. I had never seen him before.
Now it’s mid-April and trees are blooming, flowers are popping up, and people are smiling. It’s a good place to be and a good time to be here. Thank god, the sun is here.
